Just A Boy, A Smirk, And His Dog

Any photo of James and Lou together kills me. But that first photo of James with that adorable smirk on his face AND Lou in the picture, that just... More than kills me.

I'm also happy to report that we are feeling MUCH better around here! We may even get out of the house today.

The Best Of James

We've had it pretty rough over here. Last week James had an ear infection and on Sunday he caught the flu and started the lovely throwing up process. It's rough taking care of a kid who has the flu. It got even worse yesterday when I came down with it. Yesterday was pretty miserable if I'm being honest. Luckily I hadn't had the flu for three years prior so I guess I had to pay my dues.

I'm hoping we will make a turn around for the best here sometime soon.

Because there was just no way any pictures besides pictures of a bucket or toilet were going to happen, today I am bringing you a best of James post, complete with my favorite pictures of my favorite little guy.

Disney Dos

We found ourselves at Disneyland again this week. When you have a pass, and you're in town, you go. You just do. Especially when you have a little man in your life who loves Mickey Mouse cake pops. Hey, if you have a big guy in your life who loves Mickey Mouse cake pops you should go, too.

BFF

James and Sweet Lou, our little shih tzu, are best friends. At least, Lou is James' best friend. I'm not sure how Lou feels about all this. Sweet Lou puts up with a lot from James but now that James is getting older he's learning how to throw balls for Lou and how to hold his leash when we go on walks.

It's a best friendship in the making.

A Boy At The Playground

James loves the playground. I mean REALLY loves it and wants to go every day. Because I'm "a cool mom" (cue scene in Mean Girls) I take him to the playground every single solitary day. I love seeing him go down the big boy slides, love to see the joy on his face when he races up the stairs, and love to see him interacting with other kids.

But here's the kicker. Going to the playground every day means you're bound to catch some germs and sickness' from time to time. We are a VERY blessed and healthy family but the darn playground has sent some nasties our way.

Last weekend James got a cold and cough. Then a viral looking rash popped up on his belly. He never complained once. I took him to the Doctor on Monday and I'm so happy I did. Turns out that my tough little dude has an ear infection. I never would have thought he had one so I guess the rash was God's way of giving me a clue to take him in! He's got his medicine now and I am happy to report he is doing just grand!

Moral of the story- Take your kids to the playground. But don't be surprised when they take germs home with them. Hey, it happens! And it helps build up their immune system.

Happy playing!

Daily Dose Of Disney

Fact- we love Disneyland. I have always (until this year) lived 20 minutes from Disneyland and I've had an annual pass ever since I can remember. So second fact- you will be seeing some James + Disneyland posts around these parts from time to time because we go lots! Also, he is the cutest with the characters and they make for the best photos.

Yesterday it was cold and rainy but rainy days at Disney are sometimes the best because there are no crowds. It also meant James was able to wear his new stylish coat. Rain, sometimes you're ok.

Fact three- it's straight impossible to get a decent photo with my little man anymore.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

So many times when I dress James for the day, I wish I had an adult version of his clothes. Is being jealous of your sons wardrobe normal?

Take this sweater for example, I REALLY want to rock my own adult size fox sweater. Here's to hoping Target starts making women's clothes that match the toddler sections.

Skull Sweatshirt For The Win

I found this skull sweatshirt for James at Target for $5. It could just be my most favorite article of clothing he owns. And the boy owns a lot of clothes.

So one time James wore said skull sweatshirt when we visited my Grandma. She was not a fan. She kept saying things like- "Why is such a cute boy wearing such an ugly sweatshirt?" and "That sweatshirt is so scary and awful."

It really cracked me up. Obviously she didn't get the memo that skull sweatshirts are all the rage right now! So James and I are down to visit my family this week and guess what I put James in? The skull sweatshirt. I can't wait to see the look on my grandmas face.

Honestly though, the sweatshirt is rad, I love skulls, and James rocks it!

Weekend Uniform

If James had a "uniform" it would probably be leggings or colored skinnies. But his weekend uniform is different. When Saturday rolls around, we start thinking comfort and errands. Since my husband usually works the weekends, Saturdays are for car washes, Target trips, and Trader Joe runs for those few extra items our pantry is missing.

Saturdays are also for long, really long walks, so I'm usually in my most comfortable pair of yoga pants (so cliche I know) and James sports his adorable sweat suits.

I didn't even used to know that they made baby sweat suits. But they do. And they are adorable!

Sweatsuit- Shawn White for Target. (They have a blue one too!)

Birthday Babble.

Today is my birthday and I am 27 years old. My husband likes to tease me that I'm almost 30 but the truth is, I don't feel anywhere near 30. Except for the fact that I found over 20 gray hairs in my head yesterday. Fabulous. I feel like just yesterday I had my 21st birthday. But then I think of ALL the things that have happened since then and 27 sounds about right.

I am so thankful for where I am in my life at 27. I'm married. I have a beautiful baby boy. I have the sweetest dog in the world. I am so content and so happy. I'm proud of where I am in my life.

26 was good to me, as was every single other year of my life. I've got it made in the shade. God has been so good to me and my family and I know 27 will be no different.

This year I hope to worry less, pray more, continue to lead a healthy lifestyle which could always use improving, and go on more adventures. I want to put my phone away often, live in the present, only say and do things that will lift people up, and be content at all times.

My husband brought me Starbucks in bed this morning and we're going to pick up lunch and bring it to the playground to have a picnic. Because when you have kids, you always go to the playground. Even on your own birthday. I will be making my husband watch You've Got Mail today because it's my favorite and he can't say no on my birthday. For dinner delicious tofu pad thai will be delivered to my door. We may even get a little shopping in. I may even be bad and have one delicious solo cupcake from my favorite local cupcake joint. I'm going to spend the day hanging with my boys and on Monday I will visit my family and re-celebrate with them.

I got two bags and five powder cases from Petunia, the exact pair of Minnetonka moccs I had been wanting, a car charger for my iPhone which will be a lifesaver, new lounge pants, and tons of love from my guys today.

I couldn't have asked for more.

Thank you Lord, for blessing me with another year on your beautiful Earth. And thank you for letting me spend my life with the most amazing people whom I love with my whole heart.

I jumped in on these photos because its my birthday and I'm the boss today! Also, taking photos of James is one thing, but posing with him is a whole different story.. MUCH harder!!
